Candy Toys II

Godzilla Proclamation Figures

These 1.5" figures are also known as part of the 1995 Bandai Blue Small Candy Set. Then again, their gray coloring may mean they're from the Mothra Monster Museum (1996). The blue Godzilla Junior came later, and I was amazed how tiny he was. Barely one inch tall, it's one of my smallest Godzilla figures, but looks perfectly compatible next to the Aggregate.

Speaking of which, I like the Aggregate one a lot, as it was my first non-Final Form Destoroyah. He also works great with my 4" figures, allowing me to reenact the scene with all the Aggregates crawling over Godzilla (okay, one aggregate). The final form is somewhat similar to the Furikake figure, just a bit larger and with more detail, especially in the wings and chest areas. Two very cool figures, definitely assets to my Destoroyah collection.

Godzilla Kingdom Figures

These two Bandai sets were released in late 1999 for the Godzilla 2000: Millennium movie. Each set came with ten 1.5" figures which are repainted molds of the above Godzilla Proclamation Set. Each monster came with a small building or vehicle, translucent blue in the second set. Some of my favorites are MechaGodzilla's World Business Garden, Godzilla 64's Nagoya Castle, Godzilla 54's Diet Building, Angillas' Osaka Castle, Mogera's maser tank, Rodan's Sasebo (okay, Fukuoka) station, Baragon's SY-3, and Orga's alien.

The insides of the boxes show pictures and descriptions of the monsters.

Naturally, Destoroyah was included in this set (why else would it be on this page?). Along with Gigan, Destoroyah got the best paint-job of this series. I like how the red wings and yellow horn and eyes stand out. Of the eight Godzillas (1954,55,62,64,90s(2),99(2)), the Heisei one from the first set looks the best. The box says it was the 1995 Godzilla, although there are no burn marks. The Heisei Godzilla comes with the Haneda airport terminal and Destoroyah has a 747 airplane from that scene. The airplane is in scale with the terminal, so it can "dock" with the jutting walkway. This was the only Destoroyah released with G2K.

Godzilla 2000: Millennium toys

More reissues of my solid vinyl 4" 1998 Hyper Godzilla figure (black on right). The black & orange Burning Godzilla was part of the Godzilla History Set. The solid red Meltdown Godzilla is from the 2000 Hyper Godzilla Series . The History Set (or Great Godzilla Assembly) came out in 1999 for G2K and also featured Godzilla 1954, 62, 64, 84, and 99. The Hyper series had the same Godzilla designs unpainted, plus Orga and MechaGodzilla '93.

My favorite is the Burning Godzilla, which seems like a more appropriate foe for my Super Godzilla Series Destoroyah. The figure is made of orange translucent vinyl painted over in black, which looks neat behind a light. However, it's not as impressive as the High Grade one, since this Godzilla's glowing parts look almost yellow. Even though I don't like the solid red/orange meltdown Godzilla toys, I'm really glad I found the Hyper G. While I can't say a red Godzilla is movie-accurate, the bright red translucent figure makes a great suncatcher. It seems black & orange figures are known as the"Burning Godzilla" and a solid red ones are called the "Meltdown Godzilla".

Loose Godzilla candy toys

These are candy toys that came in sets where I elected to get only the GvD monsters. On the left is a candy toy from the Bandai Ultra Real Godzilla Set released for the GxM movie (Dec 2000). Destoroyah is standing on a rather plain clear plastic platform. The figure itself is identical to my Hyper Real Diorama Destoroyah. The only difference is that it's painted a flat purple color and the vinyl is a bit softer and more flexible. The inside of the box shows complex instructions on assembling the figure.

Next is diorama from the Godzilla Appearance Set. One features a two inch Burning Godzilla set amidst the rubble of the Ariake Big Sight. The detail on both Godzilla and the buildings are stunningly accurate, sculpted by none other than Yuki Sakai, who's famous for his high-quality models kits. It's by far my most impressive diorama.

Now we have the "hyper" figure for 2003. Not a whole to say about this 4" Hyper Mini Figure Destoroyah. But I want to start out positive: the coloring is pretty neat. Rather disappointing for a Bandai figure, it's just a mass of ill-defined hollow vinyl that has the basic outline of a leaning, wings-in, Destoroyah. There are two points of articulation: the left arm and left leg only.

Godzilla Sunshine Figures

I've been after these SD Bandai capsule figures for a while. Released in 1995, these are my smallest Destoroyahs, with the Aggregate about 3/4 of an inch tall and the Flying Form has around a one inch wingspan. The size and the translucent nature of the figures precludes too much detail and requires some imagination to visualize them as Destoroyah phases (as my pictures show all too well). Nonetheless, they are not without their charm: the Destoroyahs change colors when exposed to sunlight! The Flying Form becomes a different shade of gold, but the Aggregate turns a rather dramatic blue.

Godzilla Gummi Candy Set

These small 1.5" Bandai figures were released with Dec 2001's GMK movie as a set of 15 monsters. They came in a packet with a few pieces of cola-flavored gummi candy, which appeared to be shaped like SD monsters. My friend Jim said the candy tastes like Pine-Sol, and I'll agree they're not as yummy as the old-fashioned ramune pieces.

I suppose it wouldn't be a huge shock to say I immediately went after the two kaiju from GvD. The two monsters are about the same size as the above Godzilla Kingdom Figures, although the figures have a slightly more detailed mold and are made of a softer vinyl. They have fairly good paint jobs and the luster is a little glossier than my other figures. Destroyer's horn and tail claw are a little exaggerated, but I find the wings very impressive, even the smaller dorsal wings. Godzilla has his orange burn marks, but the figure is red rather than black. This set also included a special chase figure of the maquette for the original Godzilla 1954 movie.
